everything's done.
^ i'm so reluctant to hand them up tomorrow! ):
the feeling of developed photos are just so different, and i wished i could keep them.
Title: Subject of Life
Subject Matter: Direction of Life
taken in Perth on my trip there early this year, this photo was taken when i was feeling rather lost after my path after graduation. I was auctally looking up to see the beautiful sky, hoping that it will make me feel better when i saw this view, the yellowish reflection casted by the sun, without further thinking, i took my camera out and took this, with the sign board in the center because this trip to perth is similiar to seeing a street sign when i'm lost, providing me with the right direction, which is why it's called "direction of life"
auctally i felt more lost after the Perth Trip. Probably because I saw how bright my junior's future is going to be when I had auctally screwed my own future up. Like he will be going to one of the top universities in the world while I can't even get into NTU/NUS. and i can't help but wonder how different things will be if i had studied during my Year 1. afterwhich i thought of all my friends who will be studying in NTU/NUS when i will be working because I do not have a choice.
Like.. we all started at the same start point, at many points, i advanced much more ahead in front of them, but at the very end, they overtook me and I lost the whole game. I lost to no one but me.
Title: Think again
Subject Matter: initially "Nature" but changed it to abstract
I took this photo when I saw how naturally the area around the sun that was shining so brightly. It reminded me of a chinese saying, "近朱者赤,近墨者黑",meaning one who stays near vermilion gets stained red, and one who stays near ink gets stained black because in this picture the clouds that were nearer to the sun were brighter, while the clouds which was further would be darker. Similiarily, it applies to people who we mingle with, because we are easily influenced by the company we go near to, just like how the clouds were influenced by the sun.
when i was about to write the artist statement for this, my mind was auctally totally blank. i told yuling, "errr i don't know what to write for this". afterwhich i stared at this photo for like 1 minute before I finally thought of the chinese saying as mentioned. so when i had a idea, words and idea flow throught my mind like river.
After i finished writing, i thought that the saying is auctally very true, because I'm one who's easily affected by people around me. My Year 1, was influenced partly by my classmates and by Mr Ng and Mr Koh who said "aiya, poly very easy one la". Year 2 was better for me because my classmates were auctually quite guai, so i was affected by them.
Title: Embracing Nature
Subject Matter: Nature
This was taken on a trip to Perth earlier this year one week before the storm swept through Perth. It was a windy day and my brother was enjoying the strong gust of wind. Standing behind him, i knew i had to take this shot when/because he looked like he was embracing the oncoming storm, like it does not matter if it was a storm or hurricane, as they are all part of nature.
well, auctally there's wasn't going to be a storm or something. but after i photoshopped i've realised that the sky looked like there's going to be a storm or something. Plus, when i first look at the photo, the title "embracing nature" came straight to my mind. lol, yuling told me how about "receiving a gift from nature" and i was like "ya hor, like my junior is going to receive something big from the sky".
Title: Nothing is impossible
Subject Matter: Nature
This photo was taken in Perth earlier this year, I took this photo because I was amused of this burned area which was burned so beautifully. I could felt the fighting spirit within plants which were trying their best to relive and believe they would suceed. I named it "Nothing Impossible" because everything is possible as long as you try your best in it. A burned area like this, leaving only dead plants but as time passes by, they eventually grow again. Impossible? No, Nothing is Impossible.
I couldn't think of anything to write. I named it "Nothing is impossible" initially because of the sky colour but err, i think the above statement will be better?
Title: Beyond the Boundary
Subject Matter: Portrait
this was taken at Potong Pasir just last month. I took this shot when my friend got excited and anxious over a particular thing which she refused to tell me what it was, hence the title "Beyond the Boundary". What's beyond the boundary? only she knows and all we can is to guess.
hahaha! auctally i asked peiyu to act this out because we were waiting for time to pass by at the bus stop and I was sitting just next to her and had nothing to do. so i decided to take a shoot of her when she saw it and that's why i told her to look at somewhere else. :)
I was actually observing and staring at the bird for a while and I suddenly recalled back what my friend said, "A portrait to me is a picture that is able to bring out one's character". If a human portrait could bring out the character of the person, why can't a bird's portrait bring out it's character?
well, auctally i wanted to use this photo to bring out this message "if guys can, why not girls". like, "if a human can take portrait, why can't animals?" but after thinking, i don't think it's a very good idea to link females with birds. so i amend the statement a little bit.
